Is such a destructive jerk.
I haven't been able to use the internet for 2 days now, because of Hurricane Ike, which happened to hit the Texas coast (right where Galveston is). We didn't have power for a whole day, which sucked really bad, because it's so hot in Texas, and no AC is like death. And not only that, I couldn't use the internet, either. The hurricane came to my house at around 12-2 AM on Saturday morning, and the damage wasn't all that bad. Some of our shingles fell off the roof and into the backyard, but the damage is superficial and can be repaired with no problem. Hearing the strong, howling wind though, was extremely scary. At one point I thought a car was gonna fly into my house because the wind is just that strong.
But the place that suffered the most damage would have to be Galveston, since most the houses in the city are destroyed, and the beach houses pretty much collapsed. Even the memorial for the 1900 hurricane isn't there anymore, and I'm surprised the sea wall couldn't save the city this time around. If a window in a house is broken, the strong wind could blow through the whole house, and would lift the entire roof off, which is exactly what happened to some of the houses in Galveston. It's pretty much a ghost town now, and most of the city is flooded. Houston, of course, is damaged, but it's definitely not as bad as Galveston. Some of the tall buildings in Downtown Houston have had their windows shattered, and downtown Houston looks like one of those zombies-infested cities, with the damage and the desolation and all.
Luckily, there are not a lot of reports on deaths. There are two, which is a 10 year old boy who died by a tree limb his dad was cutting down, and a woman who died because of a tree falling into her house.
But other than that, we haven't heard anything else. My family and I are really lucky, because nothing major happened to us.
